Geordi La Forge

When I was a kid, I loved to watch Reading Rainbow and listen to some great story then see what new books Lavar Burton recommended that day. I still remember the cartoon of Riki-Tiki-Tavi, that crazy kid, and one episode where these Japanese guys did a performance dancing around and banging on huge gongs. It was something to see.

I grew up loving books (and for a short stint during 9th grade, Star-Trek, The Next Generation, hence Geordi La Forge has always come to mind when I think of Reading Rainbow) and still get lost in them. So here's a list of latest tasty reading and re-reading.

Peace Like a River, Leif Enger
Interpreter of Maladies, Jhumpa Lahiri
The Brothers K, David James Duncan
Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger (in Weizen Bakery in Nepal)

I Capture the Castle, Dodie Smith
Searching for God Knows What, Donald Miller
To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee
Night, Elie Wiesel
Anil's Ghost, Michael Ondaatje (on the train in Sri Lanka)
The Blind Assassin, Margaret Atwood

Between Two Hills, Sandburg

Between Two Hills, Carl Sandburg

Between two hills
The old town stands.
The houses loom
And the roofs and trees
And the dusk and the dark,
The damp and the dew
Are there.

The prayers are said
And the people rest
For sleep is there
And the touch of dreams
Is over all.
